Your Hip Hop Source

Use the Articles & More search in the Library's OneSearch to search across many newspaper and magazine articles. Once you've done a search, you'll want to use the date limiter on the left to limit your search to the time period when your hip hop record was released.

In this short doc, Glasper identifies three jazz samples, from tracks by Ahmad Jamal and Herbie Hancock, that have served as source material for famed hip-hop producers J Dilla and Pete Rock.

Regional distinctions were also a source of contention and created some of the famous East Coast/West Coast rap rivalries central to hip-hop culture, according to Forman. Most notable were the disses between Tupac Shakur from Los Angeles and The Notorious B.I.G. from New York.

When writing your extended essay you should use language that is formal and academic in tone. The chart below gives you some idea of the differences between informal and formal essays. See the box below for examples of the differences in tone in informal and formal essays written on identical topics. A PDF of this chart, and the examples below, is in the box to the right, along with a list of tips for avoiding colloquial writing.

Later in 2002, Benzino released "Pull Your Skirt Up" and took shots at Eminem with lyrics like: "The 2003 Vanilla Ice how you playin it/ If you ask me, you really ain't that nice you overrated." He also referenced Eminem's response to his album rating, saying: "You was unsigned hype before you ever met Dre/ I birthed your little career, now you owe your life to Ray."

Ja Rule, who was on good terms with The Source had a bone to pick with Eminem. Especially since he signed his rival, 50 Cent, to his record label. He released a song called "Loose Change" and insulted Eminem's daughter, rapping: "Em, you claim your mother's a crackhead/ And Kim is a known slut/ So what's Hailie gonna be when she grows up?"

Of course, social media is going to be one of your main tools as well. This includes creating a page, account, or channel, on every single one of them. Not only should you be involved in these social media outlets, but you should be incredibly active on them as well.

You have to be willing to spend money to make money. This can be a bigger barrier than other things you can do simply because you may not have a lot of money to spend on promoting yourself and pushing your hip-hop music. There are many resources you can purchase to help boost your popularity across social media platforms and other areas of marketing. They include:

It should be noted that an important part of getting yourself onto Spotify playlists is getting yourself onto the right playlist. Artist Push will allow you to select the playlist of your choice and see what kind of music that that specific playlist caters to. Pushing your music is great, but pushing it to the wrong crowd is a recipe for disaster.

Know your audience, know where to find them, and then push your hip-hop music hard to them. This one of the key methods in learning how to push hip-hop music. Soon, you can have your music on the best hip-hop playlists on Spotify.

Most microphones will emphasize frequencies below 200 Hz when you breach a certain distance threshold. The peak warmness and ideal weight of a spoken vocal tone lies between 300 Hz and 600 Hz. Therefore, proximity is a huge factor in the natural EQ of your recorded vocal.

Four things rappers need to pay attention to when performing are annunciation, breath, cadence, and pitch. There are exercises for each of these things that will help you maintain consistency in recording while enhancing your overall delivery.

Having an imbalanced mix, or even something as simple as the mic not being loud enough, can cause a mental block when recording. Comfort is key when capturing a great take, and an instant fix to mental or physical discomfort is adjusting your headphone mix.

Getting the perfect lead vocal first is constructing a solid foundation to build other ideas upon. Take the time to get your lead feeling comfortable and settled, then try doubling/tripling phrases in your verse before adding any final voices on top. You can then work in any vocal harmonies if you have a chorus melody to support.

In italic letters, I added additional info when I have it. The name after an s stand for source, meaning who I learned the move from. o stands for origin and is used whenever a move is from another style imported into hip hop.

This database was born out of a desire to share illustrations from a number of (you guessed it) old books. The folks took time to scan and publish each illustration in high resolution for you to use in your artwork.

This was a lucky find, back in 2011 an online magazine published by and for teenage girls was created called Rookie Mag. What was a regular lifestyle magazine also held a deep and amazing secret: they loved collage. So much so, they would dedicate monthly posts to full sheets that you can use in your pieces. Feel free to browse over nearly 100 different sheets full of different colors, textures, and subjects.

You will use common points among the sources you have gathered to help you synthesize the material. This will help ensure that your literature review is organized by subtopic, not by source. This means various authors' names can appear and reappear throughout the literature review, and each paragraph will mention several different authors. 350c69d7ab
